Changing the boot order on a PC is mostly done in order to boot from a recovery disk or from an OEM disk to run some kind of Windows repair software, This program is actually for automatically sharing USB drives (so you don't have to do it by hand all the time). Like so many other computer problems, I can look back and say, "Well, that was dumb!" March 22, 2008 Chris Guess you never got around to changing that title, eh? Any assistance will be highly appreciated. It might be correctly set/fixed by the wizard in a program like SharePlugger. I was plugging the external drive to the USB port in the rear of the computer, iPod to the front.

Access to external USB HDD on WinXP-home machines is still blocked when Norton is turned OFF. (I had inadvertently said "on".) January 2, 2009 anon Thanks, it worked for me! They were visible on the network, but inaccessible. Any existing volumes on the foreign disk become visible and accessible when you import the disk. brilliantak says: 6 years ago CD/DVD ROM is not in my boot preference list.
Thank you. Now I can use all my external hard drives, USB jump drives and card readers from my computer. Device manager, the USB Plug & Play, etc. I had to try several times to get the correct letter for my external drive in disk management, but when I got to E it worked!
How do I know where the laptop booted from??? The default value is 0 which means that only administrators may format or eject removable hard disks. Under "Storage Volumes" there will be an "Unknown Device" - this is the missing USB drive. I'm using it already until it started reporting that i should insert a disk before i.e if I try to open it Please i need a solution to this problem.
